goto college or art school, then you'll know what graphic design really is.

2
One way is to somehow visit a college job placement office for students looking for summer jobs and internships, especially at an art school. Also the job listings such as craigslist and creativehotlist will sometimes indicate that the position is specifically an internship. Visit home pages of studios, agencies, publications, and other businesses and look for graphic design internships being offered. Or you can compose a good cover letter and send them your resume and portoflio. If you don't know who is offering internships, you need to find out what's out there producing good stuff that you admire. One place to start is the graphic design magazines where they list the names of studios and agencies alongside their work. Oh, and you need to start looking now. The serious college student would have already had a summer internship lined up in December.

Parents are a good resource.

Most computer companies have programs for educational institutes, you're probably tax exempt..right? Call Acer or Dell first.. also, many local vendors may have computers in stock..such as laptop programs, etc.

3
Contact large and small companies and ask for donations. If they are unable to give a donation, ask for referrals. Start now because most companies give out their donations about this time. The companies do not have to be computer companies. It can be cash donation to go toward the purchase!

4
Is your institution set up as non-profit 503 [c] ? You may qualify for tax credits which could be used for PC purchases. Another thought is to investigate the various PC recycle sites- they may be a source of low-cost units.

If the aforementioned student is carrying a grenade launcher, they can have as many absents as they want. In Los Angeles, where the dead vote in elections, juries have the collective IQ of an amoeba, and rioting is seen as a way of interethnic communication, it is better to just stay out of the schools anyway.

None! Be a good girl and go to school on all school days! P.S.: Beware, I shall check around if you are doing so!

What does your question have to do with the statement you made after it? The question alone doesn't make much sense, and your other statement makes it even more incomprehensible. And what does it have to do with botany, anyway?

2
If children could visit all the places they read about they would be experiencing authentic learning that would impact their lives immensely. Most people don't learn well by simply reading about something. Experiencing something first hand makes a huge impression. The LA school district should encourage field trips to places within their budget. And no, people don't ask to be born....none of us did; what's your point?

No. Firstly the law isn't wrong. Secondly the justification they are using to call it wrong is intellectually dishonest. The LA decisions regarding the AZ law make many ASSUMPTIONS that the police in AZ are racist and will break the law. That is wrong to do, and it is even MORE wrong to teach the children something that hasn't happened, under the assumption that racist law-breaking cops will make it happen. It would be like a conservative city teaching children that Obamacare WILL lead to socialism in the US. Sure, if people abuse their power it "could" lead to a total socialization of our private healthcare system...but it is an ASSUMPTION...and assumptions should NEVER be presented as facts to impressionable kids.

Los Angeles has a Gay Alternative High School called "Project Ten." How long til the Deep South has this?
In the 1980's, Los Angeles Unified School District had three openly gay school board members: Jeff Horton, Jackie Goldberg, and Mark Slavkin. They gave the green light for Dr. Maria Uribe to begin Project Ten, an alternative high school. This school was for Gay, Lesbian, Transgendered, and Questioning Students. The project has gone for almost thirty years. Do you think the Christian Fundamentalism of the Deep South will ever permit this to occur in that region?

People want to be viewed as just another person, however, this only causes further segregation... No. I don't blame them... Should we make a school for people over 6 foot tall... schools for people with blonde hair... ridiculous, i tell ya

4
why dont u be the one to start one

5
Hopefully there will be one soon. Even more hopefully, society will finally grow up and realize homosexuality is natural and not evil, them there will be no need for alternative schools as everyone will be accepted for who they are.

6
why should they have that kind of school? shouldn't people of all different backgrounds learn to live with all different people, not go to a "special school" that's a little ridiculous. I'm not ageist it, I'm a lesbian, but that's just ridiculous.

I don't see the point for separate schools for gay and straight kids any more than segregated ones for people of different races. If someone wanted to open a private school in the South for gay kids, that would be fine. But sexual orientation, itself, has no bearing on someone's ability to learn. Having separate schools just perpetuates the notion that gays don't belong in the same society as straights and can't thrive in that environment. I feel the same way about separatist events like the Gay Olympics. If gays were differently abled than straights, it would make sense. But nothing about gayness makes someone more or less capable of athletic achievement. If the point is to bring gays together, why not just throw a big gay party?

11
Well, I'll be honest - the idea seems extremely odd to me. Do they also have an alternative high school for the unquestioningly straight, one where someone can expect to go to school without having to be subjected to the unwanted attentions of homosexuals? Or is that a privilege the city and taxpayers of L.A. fund and provide only to the non-straight? Fundamentalist Christianity does not "run" the "deep South", though it certainly can be an influential force in politics. I imagine by the time any city as large as L.A. appears in the "deep South", that city will consider implementing such a program - though I hope they have the sense to see how unfair it is. Didn't we already decide that segregated schools were a bad idea 'way back in the '60s? Jim, http://www.bible-reviews.com

12
Several respondents have expressed views concerning the real need, or the appropriateness of such schools. For example one person wrote: "I don't see the point for separate schools for gay and straight kids any more than segregated ones for people of different races." But it is because of all the religious based bigotry and severe condemnatory attitudes against gays which allow the atmosphere exist where many of our present day schools do not do enough to stop all the ridicule, harm, and even physical violence done to these students. It is a true shame that there IS all too frequently a need for schools for gays, and other "at risk students." Perhaps if we lived in a world where Christ's message of love is TRULY practiced we would not need such schools. Fortunately there are schools like this now in existence across our country -- but I doubt there will be any in the Fundamentalists south -- a bastion of prejudice, exclusionism, and religious based bigotry. What I find most cruel, bigotry against gays is even worse among blacks than caucasians. I find it ironic that a group of people who should most understand the harm done the evils of bigotry and prejudice should victimize other minorities themselves. If they want to quote Bible passages against homosexual acts, then perhaps we should quote those passages sanctioning slavery. =================================== And JOHNNYBELINDA: Blonds, and 6 feet tall students are not being abused, marginalized, and harmed. ======================================== Someone mentioned Salt Lake City. Unknown to many people, this city is NOT a typical bastion of Mormonism. In fact less than 50% Mormon. Furthermore, its politics is quite liberal. In fact, the city has two elected openly gay women and an openly gay man, representing the city in the State House and Senate, respectively. And just recently Salt Lake City has adopted pro-gay statutes -- with LDS Church support! Hours after the LDS Church announced its support (Dec 11, 2009) of proposed Salt Lake City ordinances aimed at protecting gay and transgender residents from discrimination in housing and employment, the City Council unanimously approved the measures. "The church supports these ordinances," spokesman Michael Otterson told the council, "because they are fair and reasonable and do not do violence to the institution of marriage." They also are consistent with Mormon teachings, he said. "I believe in a church that believes in human dignity, in treating people with respect even when we disagree -- in fact, especially when we disagree." "The LDS Church's endorsement was hailed by leaders of Utah's gay community -- some of them stunned -- who called it a historic night they hope will set the stage for statewide legislation. My only regret is that they di not understand that their stand against gay marriage ALSO marginalizes all gay people, and definitely does NOT "respect the dignity" of gay people.

If you're looking for an established ballet program, then the LA Ballet school program is definitely the choice here. That's not to say otherwise about Anaheim. Anaheim is a great place for dancers of all levels to get the West Coast exposure to ballet arts. The summer camps are good and there's a real sense of "community" there. But what really counts more than any of these is your background as a ballet dancer. Are you a beginner, intermediate or advanced dancer? I recently completed two intensive workshops with ballet instructors in San Francisco and Melbourne (Australia). It followed a "master class" format of instruction, which is a good way of knowing what a ballet school has to offer without committing a whole semester there. You could try something similar -- a short-term class, perhaps -- to analyze which ballet school suits you best.

2
The best place to seek out first-hand information about these programs is the "Ballet Talk for Dancers" message board: http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php? They have a whole section devoted to summer intensives, but you need to join the site in order to access it (it's free and safe to do so). Within that section, there are discussion threads devoted to each summer intensive, including Anaheim Ballet and Los Angeles Ballet. The site is monitored by professional dancers and dance teachers, so you can be sure you're getting accurate information.

3
Omg I accidently typed my answer into the source so just look down for my answer:) good luck!!:)

4
Neither one of these programs are considered elite summer Intensives. Both companies are on a regional level. If you are traveling all the way from Singapore to dance in the states, I would try to see if there were still availability in CPYB, or send an audition tape for later SIs like MYB and BAE. which audition this month and have their intensives in August.

Third St School on Disney is fictional, but there is a chance that the writers knew the school and they used the name. They may have had kids in the school, or lived in the neighborhood. Often writers will use real names/occupations, businesses, schools in their scripts. If the name of the school isn't unique, like Third St School could be anywhere, then it isn't a problem using the name.

I think your first idea about taking acting classes is better than trying to find an agent. You need to make sure you are fairly comfortable where you are first and understand how the business works here. One thing that may help you is the Working Actors Guide http://workingactors.com/ Lots of good resources, but it is just a directory so check out any business before using them. There are dialect coaches listed in there as well if you need help with that. Another good resource is backstage.com as well as the print version. Though you may have a resume in your home country, it would be a real good idea to get some credits locally. Once you've acclimated a bit and you've ben in class a while audition for some thing via backstage.com and actorsaccess.com and try adding some LA credits to your resume before submitting your headshot and resume to agents. If however you had an agent wherever you are from, ask them if they have a good relationship with anyone here in LA and can help set up a meeting. Maybe you can get started sooner that way. Referrals are the best in you can get. As for your original question, one actor's good class may be another's absolutely horrible class. You need to try them out for yourself and see what works for you. Check out the guide and the ads in backstage, call around and don't forget to take good notes. Make a list of questions of things you want to know (how much, what experience does the instructor have, what levels of classes do they teach, what different classes do they have, where would they likely place you to start off, do they allow auditing which is letting you come to one free class to see if it's a good fit for you, etc.) Once you've called several places within your driving comfort zone then hopefully you'll have gotten a feel for which places you'd like to try out. good luck, Marianne

LACC and LAValley are both good schools If you want a more intense (full time) education Pasadena Playhouse, UCLA, USC and Loyola Marymount are good, but all charge $30,000 a year.
